Problem
Scientists needed a simpler way to explore and query experimental data. The existing prototype presented all controls at once, lacked hierarchy, and offered little guidance on how to begin or build a valid query — making data exploration slow and unintuitive.
Solution
I redesigned the interface around a structured query flow — Select Filters → Choose Values → Define Parameters → View Results. The new layout introduced clearer hierarchy, contextual hints, and consistent UI patterns to reduce cognitive load and guide users step by step.
Impact
The redesigned prototype made query-building more intuitive and confident. In follow-up walkthroughs, users expressed greater clarity in how to start, what to do next, and how their actions connected to results — establishing a stronger foundation for future iterations and full implementation.
